Program Overview

The Superintendent Leadership and Licensure Certificate is a post-master’s program designed for experienced education professionals—such as principals, program directors, central office administrators, and other specialists—who aspire to become superintendents or district-level leaders. Offered in a cohort-based, online format, the program meets approximately one Saturday per month and totals 16 credit hours. Each semester, students enroll in two core courses (3 credits each) and one internship course (2 credits). Coursework and field experiences emphasize strategic district improvement planning; operations and resource management; education policy and governance; and community and stakeholder engagement.

Program Outcomes

Candidates who successfully complete the superintendent preparation program understand and demonstrate the capacity to promote the current and future success and well-being of each student and adult by applying the knowledge, skills, and commitments to lead:

  • Mission, vision, and improvement
  • Ethics and professional norms
  • Equity, inclusiveness, and cultural responsiveness
  • Learning and instruction
  • Community and external leadership
  • Operations and management
  • Policy, governance, and advocacy

Opportunities for Graduates
