Program Overview

Ohio University’s Combined Master of Science and Dietetic Internship (MSDI) program is a one-year program. The MSDI program has a community health and wellness focus with a wide variety of community nutrition experiences available based on interns’ interests. A sports nutrition focus may also be available for interested students. The program averages 10 interns a year, allowing for individualized experiences and mentorship of all students.

Interns can customize their location; Columbus-based or Athens. In addition to graduate coursework and internship experiences, interns will complete a graduate project in an area of interest prior to graduation.

Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree and are eligible to sit for the national Registered Dietitian Examination.  

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

• apply evidence-based nutrition knowledge to deliver personalized medical nutrition therapy and education in diverse settings.
• demonstrate leadership, innovation, and advocacy skills.
• demonstrate proficiency in conducting food and nutrition-related research or completing an applied project.
• evaluate and assess food and nutrition related issues from a variety of perspectives.
• Appraise food and nutrition issues from diverse perspectives.

Admission Requirements

• Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
• Verification statement, confirming completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) coursework from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
• Cumulative GPA of 2.7
• Apply by submitting the application packet using the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) system
• Apply to the Ohio University Graduate School after accepting your offer from your DICAS application

International Students

This program permits full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to this program.

Graduation Requirements

This program requires completion of the following:

• A minimum of 1,000 supervised practice hours
• Successful completion and documentation of all Learning Objectives in the Learning Assessment Summary Matrix
• Master of Science Degree requirements, which are outlined below and include a minimum of 21 credits supervised practice and 32 didactic course credits.
