Certificate Overview

The 9-credit hour Extended Reality (XR) in Healthcare Certificate prepares healthcare educators and professionals to design, evaluate, and implement immersive learning experiences using virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies. Developed through a unique partnership between the School of Nursing and the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies, the certificate combines advanced instructional design with cutting-edge XR development, giving students access to multidisciplinary expertise and state-of-the-art simulation and immersive learning resources.

Through coursework in instructional technology, healthcare informatics, immersive learning design, and a hands-on XR project, students gain practical skills grounded in ethical, accessible, and evidence-based XR integration. Designed for working professionals, the fully online certificate leverages existing XR infrastructure and faculty expertise across both schools, preparing graduates to lead innovation in simulation, immersive learning, and technology-enhanced healthcare education.
