Certificate Overview

Offered through the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, the certificate provides advanced coursework in psychological science, research literacy, and curriculum development. Courses are taught by nationally recognized faculty engaged in cutting-edge teaching and research across the psychology discipline.

The certificate is designed for working professionals and can be completed in one summer semester or across two semesters during the fall and spring. Interested students can apply their credits to the online Master of Science in Psychological Science - General Psychology program.

Certificate Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing the certificate will demonstrate:

  • a thorough understanding of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in one of the substantive areas of psychology.
  • strong research skills that will enable them to explain statistical and research conclusions drawn from existing psychological literature.
  • skills in creating and disseminating psychological curriculum.

Opportunities upon Completion

The graduate certificate in Psychology provides high school teachers who hold a master’s degree in a field outside of Psychology with a package of Psychology courses to meet the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) requirements for teaching College Credit Plus (CCP).

  2. GPA (or equivalent) of 3.0 or better in most recent degree program.

International Students

This certificate program alone does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this certificate.

Completion Requirements


The certificate requires 18 credit hours of coursework in Psychology.
