Certificate Overview
Ohio University’s U.S. History Certificate is a 100% online, graduate-level certificate designed for educators and professionals seeking advanced training in United States history. The program provides 18 graduate credit hours focused on historical analysis, interpretation, and communication. The certificate is particularly well-suited for secondary teachers seeking to teach college-level or dual-enrollment courses, including Ohio teachers interested in Ohio’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program. Students can apply sixteen certificate credits to the online Social Sciences - MSS (MS2202).
Certificate Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- analyze key themes, events, and historiographical debates in U.S. history.
- critique differing historical interpretations by comparing scholarly perspectives and assessing the influence of cultural, political, and social contexts on historical scholarship about the U.S.
- assess the historical significance of major political, social, economic, and cultural developments in U.S. history by synthesizing evidence from diverse sources and applying historical reasoning skills.
Opportunities upon Completion
This online graduate certificate in United States History qualifies high school teachers with a master’s degree in a field outside of History to meet the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) requirements for teaching College Credit Plus (CCP) courses.
