To receive a B.S.Ed. with a major in Middle Childhood Education, you must complete a program of coursework and achieve passing scores on the Praxis II exams prior to licensure. The program includes coursework well distributed over two academic concentrations. Academic concentrations may be chosen in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These will be the two subjects in which you are licensed to teach grades 4-9. Upon completing the program and achieving passing scores on the Praxis II exams, you are eligible for a two-year provisional teaching license for grades 4–9 in those areas.
Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement
The Ohio Board of Education has approved a Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement. This endorsement can be added to an existing Middle Childhood license (grades 4-9) and will allow teachers to teach grades 4-6 only in the concentration areas that are added.
