Formerly known as “Secondary Education,” Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) programs prepare candidates for an initial teaching license for grades 7 - 12, in junior or senior high schools. Programs are content-specific. Applicants may choose one of the following:
- Integrated Language Arts
- Integrated Mathematics
- Integrated Sciences
- Integrated Social Studies
- Earth Sciences
- Life Sciences
- Physical Sciences (Chemistry and Physics)
The graduate program in Adolescent-to-Young Adult (AYA) education leading to licensure recognizes and reflects both national and state trends that provide alternative routes to teacher licensure. The program permits the student to receive a master’s degree and complete teacher licensure requirements at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.
