Program Requirements

Requirements for the B.A. degree are designed for students interested in applying a general understanding of the geological sciences to such fields as education, library science, technical writing, or other areas where a general knowledge of earth science is desired. They include 52 hours of geology.

A. Requirements in Geological Sciences

Introductory course (5 credit hours)

GEOL 205 - Statistical Methods in Geology Credit Hours: 4
GEOL 255 - Historical Geology Credit Hours: 4
GEOL 330 - Principles of Geomorphology Credit Hours: 5
GEOL 341 - Principles of Paleontology Credit Hours: 4
GEOL 350 - Stratigraphy-Sedimentology Credit Hours: 4
GEOL 360 - Structural Geology Credit Hours: 5

Students may take either of the following two options for this part of the core course requirement.

GEOL 315 - Mineralogy Credit Hours: 5

GEOL 320 - Petrology Credit Hours: 4
