History Hours

56 History hours and a 2.0 minimum GPA are required for the major.

History Major 100-level courses

Complete 2 courses (8 hours) from the following:

• HIST 101 - Western Civilization in Modern Times Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 102 - Western Civilization in Modern Times Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 103 - Western Civilization in Modern Times Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 121 - Western Heritage: Classical Age Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 122 - Western Heritage: Medieval Legacy Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 123 - Western Heritage: Modernity Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 132 - Introduction to Non-Western History Before 1750 Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 133 - Introduction to Non-Western History Since 1750 Credit Hours: 4

History Major 200-level courses

Complete the following:

• HIST 200 - Survey of United States History, 1600-1865 Credit Hours: 4
• HIST 201 - Survey of United States History, 1865-present Credit Hours: 4

History Major Research and Writing

Complete the following:

• HIST 301J - Historical Research and Writing Credit Hours: 4

History Additional Hours

Complete 36 additional hours above HIST 201, including at least three 300 and/or 400-level courses spanning three different periods (pre-modern history, early-modern history and modern history) and three different geographical areas (world history, European history, and North American history).  You should consult your academic advisor for assistance in choosing appropriate courses.
