The School of Nursing offers a traditional, pre-licensure four-year B.S.N. program (BS1221). The program offers a combination of face-to-face classes and online classes. Included within the curriculum are upper-division coursework in nursing, General Education Requirements , and upper-division courses outside of nursing.

Several pre-licensure B.S.N. nursing courses have a clinical component. Clinical experiences occur in a broad range of traditional and nontraditional health care and health maintenance settings. You are responsible for transportation to the clinical experiences.

You must earn a grade of 2.0 (C) or better in each course offered by the School of Nursing (NRSE series). If you do not earn a grade of C, you must retake the course before progressing to the next course in the sequence.

Note: most undergraduate courses offered through the School of Nursing can be retaken up to one time (i.e., initial registration and one retake). Variable credit courses usually cannot be retaken (i.e., with the possibility of the initial grade no longer being figured in the accumulative grade point calculation) but can be repeated for credit to count toward your degree. There are specific requirements for progression in the pre-licensure B.S.N. program.

Upon completing the pre-licensure B.S.N. program requirements you will receive the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The requirements consist of 90 quarter hours consisting of lower-division nursing and General Education courses and 102 quarter hours of upper-division nursing, General Education and support courses, and an official application for degree conferral.

Students interested in the pre-licensure program will enter Ohio University with a premajor code of ND1220 (Pre-Nursing). To apply, you must be a high school graduate or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED). A high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is expected. To be reviewed by the selection committee, you must have completed courses in English, biology, algebra, social sciences, and chemistry at the high school or college level with a grade of C or better in each course. Recommended high school courses include physics, foreign language, anatomy and physiology or additional courses in social sciences. ACT or SAT scores are also required. Transfer applicants must have an overall college GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 point scale.  If you have earned fewer than 45 credits of college work, you must also submit official high school transcripts, as well as official copies of all college transcripts. Please refer to the School of Nursing website for current scores and more detailed criteria for admission.

To be admitted to the pre-licensure B.S.N. major, you must apply and be accepted after the successful completion of the specified prerequisite and general education courses with a grade of C or higher in each and achieving an accumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.
