Physical Education Major (B.S.Ed.)

Regardless of the college of the University from which you graduate, to achieve licensure through Ohio University to teach physical education, you must complete the following program and earn passing scores on the Praxis II exams. This program leads to a two-year provisional license in physical education allowing you to teach physical education in grades Pre-K–12.

Those interested in pursuing a degree in Physical Education should apply for entry into the Bachelor of Science in Physical Education  (BS8106) program offered by the Department of Recreation and Sport Pedagogy in the College of Education and Human Services.

Required General Education Courses


You are required to fulfill Ohio University’s General Education requirements (Tier I, II, III). Note that some courses in the teaching field simultaneously fulfill Tier II requirements.

You must complete a Tier I quantitative skills course, Tier I English course, and the following courses with a grade of C or better:

Major Requirements: At least 65 hours


All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
