Program Overview
The curriculum is designed to provide basic academic requirements for a career in urban planning in the United States. Urban planning majors take courses both inside and outside the Geography Department that emphasize social, political, and environmental aspects of the planning profession. The majority of job opportunities for urban planners are with government agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. The Bachelor of Science degree in urban planning can provide planners initial entry into the profession. However, planning positions frequently require candidates to have earned a graduate degree in planning. Therefore the urban planning major offered by the Geography Department positions graduates well for acceptance into Master of Science programs, too.
