Program Overview

The interdisciplinary nature of the global studies–Latin America major is designed to provide you with a broad understanding of Latin America applicable for a wide variety of professions. Majors are required to complete three years of Spanish and study abroad or intern in Latin America. Students must consult with their advisor and the Education Abroad Office before committing to an internship or study aboard program.

Complete 45 hours, including the following courses:

Complete 12 hours from the following courses:

Latin American Studies Core Course


Complete the following course:

Latin American Studies Electives


Latin American Studies Courses


Complete 12 hours from the following courses. Courses must be from three different departments.

Latin American Language


Complete 6 hours from the Latin American language listed below. In combination with your B.A. language requirement, complete a total of 3 years of Spanish or the equivalent.

Education Abroad/Internship


Complete one advisor-approved education abroad or internship experience which complements area and language of study; and is at least 5 weeks in duration.
