Program Overview

The Screenwriting and Digital Storytelling minor in the School of Media Arts (MDIA) is designed for individuals majoring in other fields who wish, in the course of their college experience, to gain an understanding of digital storytelling techniques, including the process of writing stories for the digital screen (i.e. television, video, or game screen).

Opportunities Upon Graduation

With digital media becoming ubiquitous in our society, the ability to analyze and deliver digital stories will better prepare students for both work and graduate education in a wide variety of fields not only in the entertainment industries, but in other areas such as business and healthcare.

Requirements

Minor Hours Requirements

The minor in scrennwriting and digital storytelling requires a minimum 18 hours; 9 at the 3000-4000 level.

Completion of the courses with a 2.5 GPA.

Complete the following course:

MDIA 1020 - Media and the Creative Process Credit Hours: 3.0

Core Requirement I

Complete one of the following courses:

MDIA 2200 - Script Analysis and Production Planning Credit Hours: 3.0
MDIA 2201 - Short Form Media Scriptwriting Credit Hours: 3.0

Core Requirement II

Complete one of the following courses; you may not repeat a Core I course for this requirement:

MDIA 2200 - Script Analysis and Production Planning Credit Hours: 3.0
MDIA 2201 - Short Form Media Scriptwriting Credit Hours: 3.0
MDIA 2202 - Non-Traditional Storytelling Credit Hours: 3.0
