Program Overview
As the recreation management industry’s growth continues to trend upward, there is a strong need for recreation management professionals that can meet the needs of agencies in the industry and the clients they serve. Professionals in recreation management are responsible for the designing, organization and administration of services, special events, and activities within the public, private, and non-profit sectors of recreation.
The Recreation Management major offers students both the theoretical and practical experience necessary to pursue a variety of career opportunities. Students majoring in recreation management will complete courses in content areas that include recreation programming, event planning, marketing, areas and facility management, and research and evaluation. In addition to completing program specific courses, students must also earn a Business Minor and one other minor/certificate of their choice. With the additional minor/certificate, students can personalize their specialization within the recreation management field. Students may consider a minor or certificate in marketing, social media, sales, entrepreneurship, diversity studies, ecotourism, coaching, or sports administration. Equipped with skills and knowledge gained from the curriculum, students will be well positioned to take on careers in municipal recreation, resort recreation, event planning, non-profit recreation, campus recreation and much more. After successfully completing the requirements and officially applying for degree conferral, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Recreation Studies (B.S.R.S.) degree.
