Program Overview: The M.A. program in History provides advanced training in historical research and writing. Students specialize in a major and a minor field of historical study. Each field is drawn from within one of three broadly defined geographical areas of concentration (listed below). Fields are defined by either national, regional, or thematic focus (including cultural and intellectual history, international relations and military history, politics and policy history, and women’s and gender history).

Program Learning Outcomes:
- Advanced understanding of a concentrated body of historical knowledge and historiography
- Advanced understanding of historical research techniques
- Development of advanced writing skills (in preparation for doctoral study or professional writing)
Opportunities for Graduates: The M. A. program prepares students for doctoral study in History, research positions in government or private organizations, and a variety of other careers.

International Students: This program permits full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to this program.
