Enrollment Eligibility: Degree-seeking students. Ohio University graduate students not enrolled in the Master of Science in Environmental Studies are eligible for the Environmental Sustainability Graduate Certificate.
Certificate Overview
The Environmental Sustainability Graduate Certificate is an opportunity for graduate students who are not enrolled in the Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES) Program to get recognition for taking a cross-section of environmentally-themed courses from a variety of disciplines. The Graduate Certificate program helps graduate students develop skills and understanding of cross-cutting sustainability themes. Sustainability is a concept that is applied and debated across many disciplines including environmental studies, business, education, economics, engineering, chemistry, geography, geology, sociology, anthropology, political science, and biological sciences. The Environmental Sustainability Graduate Certificate is an opportunity for graduate students who are not enrolled in the MSES Program to get the benefits and recognition for taking a cross-section of environmentally-themed courses from a variety of disciplines. The Graduate Certificate program helps graduate students develop skills and understanding of cross-cutting sustainability themes. Students — whether full-time graduate students or working professionals — also improve their understanding of concepts of sustainability as they relate to their specific degree program or career. The certificate program facilitates a study of environmental sustainability through the specific lens of the economy, society, the environment, and technology.

The Graduate Certificate in Environmental Sustainability helps students develop cross-cutting and applied analysis tools for tackling complex challenges in a wide range of professions. No additional requirements beyond university graduate admission requirements.
International Students
This certificate program may be completed by students holding a valid F-1 or J-1 visa.
Completion Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours to earn the certificate. Two Environmental Studies courses are required for all certificate students. The remaining credit hours are earned from courses across departments.
