Program Overview

The Master’s in Higher Education (MHE) program is designed for individuals who wish to advance their knowledge and skills while working within higher education settings. The program is offered in a flexible online format. This is a part-time program. Students taking the normal load of two courses per semester complete the program in 1 year and 8 months.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • Gain fundamental knowledge about American Higher Education, including:
    • History, purposes, and contexts of Higher Education
      Higher Education management and leadership
      Organizational perspectives
      Teaching and learning
      Research concepts and methods
  • Translate knowledge into excellent practice
  • Promote the development of opportunity and diversity throughout Higher Education
  • Manage and teach ethically

Admission Requirements

A portfolio that includes a goal statement, transcripts of all previous post-secondary coursework, and three letters of recommendation. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required.  Priority consideration is given to applications completed by March 15.

International Students

This program does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program.
