Program Overview
The computer technology program is a course of study that leads to an Associate of Applied Business degree. Students develop skills in several areas of computer technology including hardware, computer networking, computer programming, databases, network security, and website development. In addition, students develop skills that enable them to work effectively in business and society including oral and written communication, logic, trouble-shooting, ethical behavior, and time management. As full participants in the academic mission of the University, students take courses in a variety of disciplines in preparation for entering the workforce or continuing with their education.
*This program was previously AA5011 which awarded the Associate in Applied Business degree. Pending Board of Trustees approval (anticipated June 2024), the new program code will be AA5000 and will award the Associate of Applied Business degree effective the 2024-25 catalog year.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the computer technology major, students will be able to:
- Be exposed to a breadth of computer technologies and programs including networking, programming, database management, and website development.
- Develop effective computer technology skills, including the ability to learn new technologies, troubleshoot problems, create system requirements, evaluate systems, and document requirements and solutions.
- Develop effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Develop an understanding of the role of the computer professional within an organization, including the basics of business accounting and economics, the ethical use of information and computer systems, and the professional understanding of an organization’s goals, culture, and business.
- Develop respect for diversity and community.
- Develop the ability to create, manage, and follow a plan that meets an identified goal.
- Obtain the skills necessary for future academic growth.

Opportunities Upon Graduation
Students who earn a degree in computer technology work in a variety of positions in computer-based professions such as programming, computer networking, website design and management, and database support. Depending on the chosen electives in the major, graduates are prepared to work as network technicians, computer support technicians, help desk support analysts, entry-level programmers, website developers. Graduates may choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in technical and applied studies, communication studies, or specialized studies.
