Program Overview

If you have not settled on a major and aren’t sure what college you’d like to join you will enroll in University College. University College is your home for academic exploration. You will navigate general education courses, engage in milestone activities and work to identify your interests, in preparation to choose a major. While on average, students identify an intended major within their first year of exploration, you are allowed to earn up to 60 semester hours before you must declare a degree. Some Ohio University majors have selective admission criteria, it will be important to discuss major options with your academic advisor each semester to ensure eligibility to apply to selective majors. Students may choose from University-wide Major Exploration (Undecided) (ND1201), or be placed in one of the following categories if selective admission criteria is not met at the time of review: Intending Pre-engineering (1105), Intending Business (1206), Intending Journalism (1207), Intending Media Arts (1208), Intending Aviation Flight (ND1291). Undecided students are assigned advisors who are experienced with helping students who are interested in exploring a range of major options.

Admissions Information

Students with 30 or more semester credits transferring from other colleges within Ohio University may be undecided but must meet with an academic advisor immediately. Transfer students from other universities are eligible to enroll as undecided students but it is recommended that students align themselves with a college prior to admission.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

As this program of study is for undecided students and is not a terminal degree, post-graduation career opportunities will be contingent on the student’s destination major.
