Program Overview

The Jewish Studies certificate program provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Jewish history, culture, and literature. The program brings together a number of disciplines (history, classics and religious studies, English, Jewish studies, and political science).

Students will take one of three basic courses (in biblical literature or Jewish history) and then a sampling of courses offered in five different areas, with at least one course in four of the five areas.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Change of Program Policy

To apply for the certificate, a student should fill out the Update of Program form.

External Transfer Admission

No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

The graduates with this certificate will have an increased knowledge about Jewish history, culture, and literature.

Certificate Hours Requirement


The Jewish Studies certificate program requires a minimum of 12 hours.

Complete one of the following courses:

Elective Requirement


Complete any three of the following courses, including at least one CARS or JS course and at least one HIST course. CARS 3000  or JS 1000  can only count towards this requirement if the course was not used to fulfill the “Required Course” category above.
