Program Overview
The mission of the MAA program is to prepare students for leadership roles in interscholastic athletic administration. The MSAA online degree program is specifically designed to prepare teachers, coaches, and athletic professionals for a career in middle school or high school athletic administration.
The MAA program offers a convenient learning experience for students seeking to further their careers through practical knowledge and competencies. The curriculum allows students to apply their knowledge of best practices in athletic administration to their professional experience while also preparing for National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) certification.
Students are required to complete a total of 11 courses (30 credit hours). Courses are offered in a condensed 7-week course structure. Students take one course at a time and two courses per 15-week semester. At this pace, students graduate within 20 months. Students are required to attend an Athletic Leadership Forum on the Ohio University Athens campus during one summer term.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of interscholastic athletic administration knowledge across disciplines.
- Develop professional skills and abilities relevant to interscholastic athletic administration.

Admission Requirements
- Regionally accredited bachelor’s degree.
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in the last 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours.
- Minimum of two years of experience in interscholastic athletic administration, coaching or related experience.
- Two letters of recommendation from professional references. At least one letter from current interscholastic administrator is required.
- Official transcripts from all degree bearing institutions at the bachelor’s level or higher and unofficial transcript for any additional college coursework.
- Current resume.
International Students
This program does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program.
