Program Overview
The Ohio University Patton College of Education is approved by ODHE as a provider of the Professional Development Institute which meets the requirements to advance the Alternative Resident Educator License to the Professional License. The Patton College Professional Development Institute program is offered for 15-18 credit hours depending on the requirements for professional licensure.

Admission Requirements
In order to apply to The Patton College of Education’s Professional Development Institute, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and must have completed either the Intensive Pedagogical Training Institute or the Alternative Resident Educator Institute. Applicants must also have a temporary teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education. In order to complete the Professional Development Institute, prospective students will need to apply to Ohio University as non-degree students to the Professional Development Institute for Alternative Resident Educator License. You will be required to provide a copy of a valid Alternative Resident Educator license.
Completion Requirements
The Patton College Professional Development Institute program is offered for a total of 15-18 credit hours). All students must complete 15 hours to complete the program. Those seeking licensure in AYA Language Arts or Special Education will also be required to complete the course in Phonics. Students who do not complete all courses required for their certificate will not receive a certificate of completion.
