Program Overview
Ohio University’s Combined Master of Science and Dietetic Internship (MSDI) program is a four-semester (16 month) program. The MSDI program has a community health and wellness focus with a wide variety of community nutrition experiences available based on interns’ interests. A sports nutrition focus may also be available for interested students. The program averages 10 interns a year, allowing for individualized experiences and mentorship of all students.
Interns can customize their location; Columbus-based, Athens-based or two semesters in Columbus and two semesters in Athens. In addition to graduate coursework and internship experiences, interns will complete a graduate project in an area of interest prior to graduation.
Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree and are eligible to sit for the national Registered Dietitian Examination.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective and professional oral presentation skills
- Demonstrate effective and professional written presentation skills.
- Apply knowledge of technologies to research interpretation
- Demonstrate proficiency in either food and nutrition research or an applied project.
- Appraise food and nutrition issues from diverse perspectives.

Admission Requirements
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Verification statement, confirming completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) coursework from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
- Cumulative GPA of 2.7
- Apply by submitting the application packet using the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) system
- Apply to the Ohio University Graduate School after accepting your offer from your DICAS applicstion
International Students
This program permits full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to this program.
Graduation Requirements
This program requires completion of the following:
- A minimum of 1,000 supervised practice hours, with a minimum of 350-550 community hours, 300-450 clinical hours and 200-250 food service management hours.
- Successful completion and documentation of all Learning Objectives in the Learning Assessment Summary Matrix
- Master of Science Degree requirements, which are outlined below and include a minimum of 22 credits supervised practice and 34 didactic course credits.
