Certificate Overview
The Certificate in Technology Enhanced Language Teaching provides a solid foundation in the use of technology for language teaching for those who work or intend to work as teachers, administrators, or developers. It is also useful for those who wish to further their education in an area related to linguistics and/or technology.
Certificate Learning Objectives

Students will be able to describe the most common design principles for TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teaching materials.

Students will be able to elucidate and evaluate the methodological and technological options available to the teacher of English to speakers of other languages in a particular teaching context.

Students will be able to assess the relevance and potential of materials and technologies for particular teaching contexts.

Students will be able to produce a set of materials that can be used in the TESOL classroom.

Students will be able to critically evaluate the principles upon which these materials are based, and the technologies chosen to help deliver them
Opportunities upon Completion
The certificate provides professional training which enhances domestic and global work potential in the fields of second and foreign language teaching, administration, and materials development. The certificate also enhances the appeal of those working in or seeking to work in an area related to linguistics and/or technology.

Admission Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor’s degreee.

Resume, which must include a list of every school attended, as well as the GPA obtained at each institution.

GPA (or equivalent) of 2.5 or better in most recent degree program.

Transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended

Statement of purpose (1-2 pages)

Brief statement of purpose (1-2 pages) by the candidate.

Proof of English proficiency: International students whose native language is not English also must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS academic). To be considered official, test scores must be reported directly from the testing agency to Ohio University. For non-native English speakers: Minimum TOEFL: 600 (paper), 100 (iBT), or IELTS: 7.0 overall average.
International Students
This program may not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program. However, this certificate can be completed as an integral part of MT 5245 MTESOL MA5293 Applied Linguistics, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to that degree program.
