    A study of the life and work of German Romantic opera composer Richard Wagner with special focus on his magnum opus: Der Ring des Nibelungen. The course will include class lectures, discussions, audio/visual presentations, etc. The course will culminate with a week-long trip to Washington, DC to see the Washington National Opera company’s production of The Ring and attendance at a variety of lectures being presented in conjunction with the production. The trip would occur immediately after the end of our spring semester. The trip to DC for the performances is a required component of the class.
