OCOM 8203 - Elective - Cardiology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a cardiology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to conduct a focused cardiovascular history and physical exam.
- Students will be able to interpret electrocardiograms and basic cardiac imaging.
- Students will be able to identify and describe common cardiac conditions.
- Students will be able to apply diagnostic reasoning to acute cardiac presentations.
- Students will be able to explain pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment strategies.
- Students will be able to communicate care plans to medical colleagues, patients and their families using compassion, empathy, and respect.
