OCOM 8206 - Elective - Otorhinolaryngology/Otolaryngology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on an otorhinolaryngology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat, and related head and neck structures.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to perform a focused ENT (ear, nose, throat) history and physical exam.
- Students will be able to identify common ENT conditions and emergencies.
- Students will be able to interpret diagnostic tests used in ENT (e.g., audiometry, endoscopy).
- Students will be able to recommend appropriate treatment for common ENT conditions.
- Students will be able to assist with basic ENT procedures.
- Students will be able to describe interdisciplinary approaches to head and neck care.
- Students will be able to communicate care plans to medical colleagues, patients and their families using compassion, empathy, and respect.
