OCOM 8207 - Elective - Emergency Medicine The elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Educational activities rely on the application and integration of foundational concepts in emergency through faculty and learner-directed study. Additionally, course topics are reinforced through clinical experiences.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to complete a focused history and physical exam on an emergency room patient.
- Students will be able to identify emergency room patients requiring urgent or emergent evaluation and treatment.
- Students will be able to assess and complete initial management of emergency room patients.
- Students will be able to interpret diagnostic test results in emergency room patients.
- Students will be able to assist with common emergency room procedures under supervision.
- Students will be able to apply the medical knowledge necessary for the diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making in emergency room patients.
