OCOM 8211 - Elective - General Internal Medicine This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a general internal medicine rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in evaluating and managing adult patients across a broad range of acute and chronic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Credit Hours: 2-56
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to apply diagnostic reasoning to evaluate common inpatient and outpatient presentations.
- Students will be able to describe the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart failure.
- Students will be able to interpret common laboratory and imaging studies used in internal medicine.
- Students will be able to recognize and manage acute medical conditions in hospitalized patients.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive internal medicine care.
- Students will be able to integrate evidence-based guidelines into clinical decision-making.
