OCOM 8215 - Elective - Nuclear Medicine


This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a nuclear medicine rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the diagnostic and therapeutic use of radiopharmaceuticals and imaging technologies in patient care.

Credit Hours: 2-40

Course Outcomes
  • Students will be able to describe principles of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear imaging modalities.
  • Students will be able to apply diagnostic reasoning using nuclear imaging modalities.
  • Students will be able to describe indications and procedures for common nuclear medicine studies.
  • Students will be able to recognize therapeutic applications of nuclear medicine in endocrine and oncologic care.
  • Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate nuclear medicine into clinical decision-making.
  • Students will be able to reflect on safety, ethics, and regulatory aspects of nuclear medicine practice.
