OCOM 8218 - Elective - Ophthalmology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on an ophthalmology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of common ophthalmologic conditions. Course topics are reinforced through hands-on clinical experiences.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to complete a focused history and ophthalmologic exam.
- Students will be able to use the ophthalmoscope and slit lamp.
- Students will be able to recognize common ocular conditions and ocular emergencies.
- Students will be able to interpret diagnostic test results relevant to clinical care.
- Students will be able to apply the medical knowledge necessary for the diagnostic and therapeutic decision making in patients with ophthalmologic conditions.
