OCOM 8219 - Elective - Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on an osteopathic manipulative medicine rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the application of osteopathic principles and manipulative techniques to support patient care across a variety of clinical presentations.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to explain osteopathic principles and their application in clinical care.
- Students will be able to apply osteopathic structural examination techniques to identify somatic dysfunction.
- Students will be able to describe and perform common manipulative treatment modalities.
- Students will be able to recognize the role of OMM in managing musculoskeletal and systemic conditions.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate osteopathic care into clinical practice.
- Students will be able to reflect on the holistic philosophy and patient-centered approach of osteopathic medicine.
