OCOM 8221 - Elective - Orthopedic Surgery The elective integrates biomedical, social, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Educational activities rely on the application and integration of foundational concepts in orthopedics through faculty and learner-directed study. Additionally, course topics are reinforced through clinical experiences.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to complete a pertinent history and musculoskeletal exam.
- Students will be able to recognize common orthopedic conditions.
- Students will develop skills in interpreting diagnostic testing in patients with orthopedic conditions.
- Students will be able to participate in standard orthopedic procedures utilized to diagnose and treat orthopedic conditions.
- Students will be able to describe surgical and non-surgical treatments for orthopedic conditions.
- Students will be able to apply the medical knowledge necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making in patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
