OCOM 8222 - Elective - Laboratory Medicine/Pathology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a laboratory medicine/pathology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in diagnostic testing, specimen analysis, and the role of pathology in clinical decision-making and patient care.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to describe laboratory testing methods and pathology principles used in diagnosis.
- Students will be able to apply diagnostic reasoning for the selection and interpretation of specific laboratory and pathology data.
- Students will be able to describe common laboratory methods and preparations and their clinical applications.
- Students will be able to recognize the role of pathology in disease diagnosis and management.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support clinical decision-making.
