OCOM 8224 - Elective - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a physical medicine and rehabilitation rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of patients with physical impairments and functional limitations.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to conduct a focused musculoskeletal and neurologic exam.
- Students will be able to identify common rehabilitation diagnoses and functional impairments.
- Students will be able to apply principles of goal setting and functional assessment.
- Students will be able to describe the use of assistive devices and rehabilitation therapies.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
- Students will be able to communicate care plans to medical colleagues, patients and their families using compassion, empathy, and respect.
