OCOM 8227 - Elective - Pulmonary Medicine This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a pulmonary medicine rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of respiratory conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to describe pulmonary anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Students will be able to apply principles of diagnosis and management for common respiratory conditions.
- Students will be able to describe the use and interpretation of pulmonary function tests.
- Students will be able to recognize and manage acute and chronic respiratory failure.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive pulmonary care.
- Students will be able to reflect on the impact of respiratory disease on patient function and quality of life.
