OCOM 8229 - Elective - Rheumatology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a rheumatology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions.

Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to evaluate patients presenting with musculoskeletal complaints using knowledge of autoimmune and rheumatologic conditions.
- Students will be able to apply diagnostic reasoning to evaluate joint pain and systemic symptoms.
- Students will be able to describe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management strategies.
- Students will be able to interpret immunologic and rheumatologic laboratory tests.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive rheumatologic care.
- Students will be able to integrate osteopathic principles into the management of musculoskeletal conditions.
- Students will be able to idenitfy complications and comorbidities associated with rheumatologic diseases.
- Students will be able to describe and explain the impact of chronic rheumatologic conditions on patients’ quality of life.
