OCOM 8233 - Elective - Maternal Fetal Medicine This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a maternal fetal medicine rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the care of high-risk pregnancies and fetal conditions.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to identify and describe common maternal and fetal conditions encountered during pregnancy.
- Students will be able to apply principles of prenatal screening, diagnosis, and management.
- Students will be able to describe the role of ultrasound and other imaging modalities in maternal-fetal assessment.
- Students will be able to recognize high-risk pregnancy scenarios and outline appropriate care strategies.
- Students will be able to interpret diagnostic tests relevant to maternal and fetal health.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive maternal-fetal care.
- Students will be able to communicate effectively with patients and families regarding prenatal care and outcomes.
- Students will be able to reflect on ethical considerations and decision-making in maternal-fetal medicine.
