OCOM 8238 - Elective - Trauma This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a trauma rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of acute injuries and critical trauma cases.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to evaluate patients presenting with traumatic injuries.
- Students will be able to apply principles of trauma assessment and stabilization.
- Students will be able to describe management strategies for common traumatic injuries.
- Students will be able to interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory results in trauma cases.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide trauma care.
- Students will be able to identify indications for surgical intervention in trauma.
- Students will be able describe and explain on the psychosocial impact of traumatic injuries.
- Students will be able to communicate effectively with patients and families in trauma settings.
