OCOM 8241 - Elective - Podiatry This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on a podiatric medicine and surgery rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation, medical management, and surgical treatment of foot and ankle conditions.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to explain foot and ankle anatomy, pathology, and biomechanics.
- Students will be able to apply principles of podiatric evaluation and treatment in clinical settings.
- Students will be able to recognize the role of podiatric medicine in managing chronic diseases such as diabetes.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive foot and ankle care.
- Students will be able to reflect on the impact of podiatric conditions on mobility, function, and quality of life.
