OCOM 8244 - Elective - Infectious Disease This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on an infectious disease rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of infectious conditions across diverse patient populations and care settings.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to explain infectious disease pathophysiology and epidemiology.
- Students will be able to apply principles of diagnosis and management for common and complex infections.
- Students will be able to describe appropriate use of antimicrobial agents and stewardship practices.
- Students will be able to recognize and manage infections in patients who are immunocompromised.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive infectious disease care.
- Students will be able to reflect on global health, public health, and ethical considerations in infectious disease management.
