OCOM 8245 - Elective - Allergy/Immunology This elective integrates biomedical, social, osteopathic, clinical, and health systems science into the clinical learning environment. Students apply foundational concepts through faculty- and learner-directed study, reinforced by clinical experiences while on an allergy/immunology rotation. Students collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to gain experience in the evaluation and management of allergic and immunologic conditions across the lifespan.
Credit Hours: 2-40
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to describe allergic and immunologic conditions and their clinical implications.
- Students will be able to apply principles of diagnosis and management in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Students will be able to describe common testing modalities, including skin testing and pulmonary function testing.
- Students will be able to recognize and describe the management of acute allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
- Students will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive allergy/immunology care.
- Students will be able to reflect on the impact of allergic and immunologic diseases on patients’ quality of life.
