HIST 453E - Medieval Rome: Piety and Power An interdisciplinary course on the political, religious, and topographical history of the city and its environs over a long time span. The focus is on periods of dramatic change, both political and physical, including the time around the reigns of the first Roman emperor, Augustus, and the first Christian emperor, Constantine; Rome under Gothic, Byzantine, Carolingian rule; the medieval city around the first Jubilee in 1300; Renaissance Rome, and the fascist rebuilding of the city. Prerequisites: SR & (HIST 121 OR 122 OR CLAR 212 OR A H 212) & (HIST 329C OR 353A OR CLAS 254 OR 255)
