HIST 3866 - History and Strategy of the Afghan Wars Examines the history of strategic rivalry in Afghanistan and the borderlands of Central, South, and West Asia. Topics include the geopolitical setting and premodern precedents of contemporary policy; Britain’s Afghan Wars and the Great Game of empire in Asia; the interests and influences of Pakistan, Iran, India, and China; the Soviet war of the 1980s and its consequences; and developments since 2001.
