GER 3570 - German through Film This course offers an introduction to German cinema from its beginnings to the present. Through discussion of key films, students gain an understanding of the historical development of German cinema and its relation to relevant historical, political, and cultural contexts and related artistic movements. Students develop their German language proficiencies through assigned readings, participation in class discussion, and completion of writing assignments, many of which entail revisions. Students acquire skills in the analysis of cinematic form. Proceeding chronologically, the course is structured around representative films, screened outside of class. Class time is devoted to lectures and class discussion.
