EDCE 6450 - Counseling Over the Lifespan Students will gain an understanding of the nature and needs of individuals at all levels of human development. Issues in counseling and counseling techniques and strategies for use with persons at different points across the lifespan will be explored. The primary emphasis in readings and experiences will be on the psychological, sociological, and physiological aspects of human development and behavior for children, adolescents, and adults. Theories of development, personality, and learning will likewise be explored.

Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Demonstrate competence in interpreting both research and theoretical literature in the areas of lifespan development from various perspectives (CACREP Standard 8e).
- Demonstrate understanding of special needs, concerns, and developmental tasks of each stage of development in the life cycle (CACREP Standards 3a to h).
- Identify and demonstrate understanding of major growth and development, including individual and family development and transitions across the lifespan (CACREP Standards 3a to 3h; CMHC[D3]).
- Identify legal and ethical counseling implications concerning human growth and development (CACREP Standard 1j; CMHC A2; B1).
- Relate developmental concepts to normal and abnormal growth and development (CACREP Standards 3a-h).
- Understand cultural issues in human growth and development, including issues of age, gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation (CACREP Standards 2a to f ).
