EDCE 6810 - Seminar in Counseling A culminating evaluative experience involving the scholarly application of research, theory, and professional practice. Designed to provide students a capstone experience to the master’s degree program in Counselor Education. Will assess students’ comprehensive preparedness through evaluation of professional and academic writing abilities, professional licensure examination preparation, and compilation of a portfolio tracking students’ counselor development throughout formal counselor preparation.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 2 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Articulate a personal approach to counseling (CACREP II.G.3, 5; CORE C.5, C.1).
- Articulate multicultural competence in counseling practice, as demonstrated by examples throughout preparation as well as written discussion of counseling concepts (CACREP II.G.2; CORE C.2, C.5, C.9).
- Demonstrate clear understanding of major concepts of the counseling profession, including accreditation standards, as aligned with CACREP and CORE standards (CACREP II.G.1; CORE C.1.1, C.1.7).
- Demonstrate readiness for professional licensure and certification examinations.
- Evaluate one’s strengths and areas in need of development as a professional counselor (CACREP II.G.5; CORE C.1, C.10).
- Participate in professional, ethical, and legal activities in preparation for entrance into the counseling profession (CACREP II.G.1; CORE C.1.1, C.1.4).
