EDCE 8920 - Practicum in Counselor Education and Supervision Experience in program development and professional counselor preparation activities. Includes supervising of, consulting with, and education of pre- and in-service counselors. Other activities may include student and staff evaluation; organization of personnel programs; and use of staff meetings for counselee study, staff consultation, and program management.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 1 - 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 3.0 hours. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 practicum Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Accept feedback from peers and the supervisor and adjust interventions as appropriate.
- Demonstrate consistency between theory and practice, which exemplifies the ability to use higher order thinking skills and to facilitate such skills in others as a facilitating reflective practitioner.
- Demonstrate self-awareness regarding relationship issues in the supervision process.
- Demonstrate supervisee conceptualization skills through tape reviews and supervision-of-supervision discussions.
- Demonstrate understanding of the ACA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (2005), particularly as how to they relate to supervision.
- Develop a comprehensive personal model for counseling supervision based on the relevant literature and their personal experience, which will include skills assessment, development, and evaluation procedures.
- Evaluate their work as counseling professionals.
- Fulfill all contractual agreements for supervision of their assigned master’s level students in collaboration with an assigned practicum instructor.
- Understand and demonstrate sensitivity to how supervisees’ cultural backgrounds may impact their response to supervision.
