EDCP 6300 - The Helping Relationship in Higher Education Introduction to modes, methods, and issues involved in effective helping relationships with college students.

Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture, 1.0 laboratory Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,CR,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will assess their abilities to help empower students’ self determination, decision-making, and sense of community.
- Students will become aware of ethical and legal issues and standards that affect helping agents in higher education.
- Students will develop helping skills, such as active listening, clarification, confrontation, conflict mediation, and community building.
- Students will differentiate purposes, roles, and skills in helping relationships for college students.
- Students will explore cognitive, effective, and behavioral dimensions of helping relationships with diverse students.
- Students will identify and analyze concepts and research about these relationships.
